Illinois Soybean Growers Supports Durbin on Cuba Leadership

Today the Illinois Soybean Growers joined U.S. Senator Dick Durbin to discuss increased trade opportunities in Cuba for Illinois soybean farmers during an event on the Illinois State University campus in Normal. Represented by Rob Shaffer, ISG District 6 director from El Paso, ISG commended Senator Durbin’s leadership on this important issue. Shaffer was joined at the table by Durbin and representatives from the State Department and United States Department of Agriculture, among others. Doug Schroeder, ISG District 11 director from Mahomet, also attended along with ISG staff. Durbin has been a strong champion on moving Cuban relations forward. Since 2012, ISG farmer-leaders and staff have visited Cuba five times, with a sixth visit planned this fall to promote Illinois’ quality soy at the annual international trade show. ISG is a founding member of the Illinois Cuba Working Group and U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba.

Illinois Soybean Growers (ISG) is a membership organization serving more than 43,000 Illinois soybean growers.  ISG provides advocacy in Springfield and Washington, D.C., to promote the interests of Illinois soybean farmers and programs that enhance soybean production and demand. Voice for Soy, the online action center supported by ISG, allows growers to easily connect with legislators and regulators to advocate for Illinois agriculture.
